Q :	What is redundant dual AC technology?
A :	One direct input from the wall outlet as master source and the second direct input from UPS or power generator as slave backup source. One facilitates the other in course of input failure (Electrical outage, UPS failure) Thus when an event of power failure occurs, AC input switch to remaining power source to ensure continuous system operation.
Q :	What is iStarUSA redundant load-sharing feature?
A :	Power modules are sharing at 52% and 48% loads in 1+1 setting and respectively in N+1 configuration. The better load-sharing between modules helps to reduce electrical loads and heat generated by power supply thus increase power supply life and system stability.
Q :	What is MTBF?
A :	MTBF stands for Mean Time Between Failure. If an MTBF of 50.000 hours is stated it actually means that by testing a conclusion is made that the average lifetime is 50.000 hours.
Q :	What is a (hot-swap) redundant power supply?
A :	This is a power supply which consists of different power supply modules. An example of this is a 300W power supply unit which consists of two 300W power supplies, if one power supply fails the other one takes over. Many redundant power supplies use the shared load principle, for instance an 460W 2+1 power supply which consists of three 230W power modules, two out of the three units provide 460W together, when one module fails, the third one takes over. When it is possible to replace a defective module while running (without shutting down the server/workstation), it is called hot-swap. A redundant power supply delivers better uptime by making sure a server/workstation doesn't go down when single power module failure occurs.
Q :	What is PFC on a power supply?
A :	PFC is short for Power Factor Correction. The PFC is a number between 0 and 1, it is stated with the Greek letter Lambda which is the ratio of the real power consumed and the RMS power consumed. There are two forms of PFC, passive PFC (mostly just called PFC) and active PFC. Passive PFC is done by a choke and active PFC is done by an electronics circuit. Active PFC is more expensive because it takes more components to build. The typical figure of passive PFC is 0.65 whilst the typical figure of active PFC is 0.98.

A :	PMBus is an open- standard digital power-management protocol with a fully defined command language that facilitates communication with power converters and other devices in a power system. It simply allows digital control of a power supply over a specified physical bus, communications protocol, and command language. The benefit of PMBus: 400 kHz bus speeds are allowed In PMBus, blocks may include up to 255 bytes Some commands use the SMBus 2.0 block process calls. An "extended command" protocol is defined, using a second command byte to add 256 more codes each for both standard and manufacturer-specific commands.
